FINANCIAL literacy Initiatives

DBCF partners with other organizations to help support and promote various financial education programs:

TEAM Initiative

DBCF is a proud supporter of the Treasurer’s Education About Money (TEAM) Initiative sponsored by the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE).  MCEE is one of two organizations chosen to provide services to educators to promote financial literacy in Mississippi.  This initiative provides training, support, and curriculum materials for teachers throughout the State of Mississippi to assist them in educating students in K-12 classrooms on key economic, personal finance and entrepreneurial concepts.  Annual contributions from DBCF assist MCEE in meeting its goal of “Giving Our Children The Tools They Need to Succeed.”

Personal Finance Challenge

DBCF staff routinely serves as volunteer judges for the Mississippi Personal Finance Challenge, a program of the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE).  The program is designed to recognize students who demonstrate high levels of personal finance skills and reward teachers for outstanding practices in teaching personal finance curriculum. MCEE recognizes that financial literacy is a skill needed for success in the global workplace. Teachers of economics, business, marketing, personal finance, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) are urged to participate in the on-line Personal Finance Challenge.

CSBS Case Study Competition

This competition is facilitated by the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) and is an innovative approach to the study of community banking. By partnering undergraduate student teams with community banks to conduct original case studies, the competition aims to build a further understanding of the community bank business model and the role community banks play in local communities. The student teams are expected to submit a case study research paper and video and are then judged and recognized.  DBCF staff has served as volunteer judges for this competition for the past four years.

DBCF offers two financial literacy reference guides to educate consumers on lending and spending.  Copies are available upon request.
